VDSL2 Family of CO Chipsets
T
he Arion™ CO family of chipsets, a part of Centillium’s VDSL2
end-to-end solution, is a high-performance, four-port standard-
based VDSL2 solution that addresses CO (central office, RT (remote
terminals), and MxUs (multi-dwelling/multi-tenant units) applications.
Armed with many years of high-performance DSL technology
deployment around the world, the Arion CO chipset offers the next
generation of eXtremeVDSL2™ technology for the exploding triple-
play, video, and IPTV markets. In addition to advanced features, the
Arion chipset offers an innovative on-chip cascading or aggregation
mode for connecting multiple Arion chips for pizza-box MxU
applications, eliminating the need for an external switch or aggregator.
The Arion chipset enables off-chip ATM and PTM bonding by providing
encapsulated partial packets over the Utopia/POS interfaces. On-
chip AAL5 SARing enables flexibility of connecting to ATM or PTM
modems and network backplanes. The Arion chipset incorporates
multiple interfaces that will support both the ATM and Ethernet/packet
traffic making it the solution of choice for high-performance, multi-
service line cards.
Consisting of a monolithic four-port digital processor and a monolithic
two-port AFE, the Arion chipset provides a versatile solution that
supports eight different profiles specified in the ITU-T G.993.2
standard. The digital processor provides full programmability and
high-performance for future-proof line card solutions.
The AFE incorporates external discrete components resulting in a
reduced system BOM (bill of materials). Its high-resolution analog-to-
digital (A/D) and digital-to-analog (D/A) converter circuits provide the
performance required for high data rate applications.
The Arion CO family of chipsets provides features, density, cost,
performance, and power advantage. To accelerate time to market,
complete reference designs and customer support are provided.
