1.1 Scope. This drawing describes the requirements for metallized polycarbonate capacitors screened to
MIL-PRF-39022.

2.1 General. The documents listed in this section are specified in sections 3 and 4 of this specification. This section does not

2.3 Order of precedence. Unless otherwise noted herein or in the contract, in the event of a conflict between the text of this
document and the references cited herein (except for related specification sheets), the text of this document takes precedence.
Nothing in this document, however, supersedes applicable laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained.
3. REQUIREMENTS
3.1 Interface and physical dimensions. The interface and physical dimensions shall be as specified in
MIL-PRF-39022
and herein
(see
figure 1
and
table I).
3.1.1 Leads. Copper or copper-clad (see
figure 1).
3.1.2 Case. Hermetically sealed.
3.1.3 Pure tin. The use of pure tin, as an underplate or final finish is prohibited both internally and externally. Tin content of
capacitor components and solder shall not exceed 97 percent, by mass. Tin shall be alloyed with a minimum of 3 percent lead, by
mass (see
6.3).
3.1.4 Operating temperature range. The operating temperature range shall be -55C to +125C.

3.2 Electrical characteristics.
3.2.1 Rated voltage. See
table I
for +85C ratings. For +125C operation, linearly derate +85C rating by 50 percent.
3.2.2 Dielectric type. Metallized polycarbonate.
3.2.3 Dielectric withstanding voltage (DWV). In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022,
with the following details: 200 percent of rated dc
voltage applied terminal to terminal for 60 seconds minimum, 120 seconds maximum.
3.2.4 Capacitance (see
table I).
In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022.
3.2.5 Capacitance tolerance (see
table I).
F = ±1 percent, G = ±2 percent, J = ±5 percent, and K = ±10 percent.
3.2.6 Low temperature and capacitance change with temperature.
3.2.6.1 Low temperature. In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022.
3.2.6.2 Capacitance change with temperature. In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022,
with the following exceptions:
At -55C: 0 to -1.7 percent.
At +25C (retrace): ±0.25 percent.
At +125C: +1.2 percent to -0.7 percent.
3.2.7 Dissipation factor (DF). In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022,
except the dissipation factor shall not exceed .2 percent.

3.2.8 Insulation resistance (IR). In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022.
When measured at the applicable test temperature and rated
voltage, the insulation resistance shall equal or exceed the following values:

3.3 Solderability. In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022,
except both terminals shall be immersed to within .050 inch of the capacitor
body.
3.4 Flash point of impregnant. Not applicable.
3.5 Radiographic inspection (X-ray). Not applicable.
3.6 Thermal shock. In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022.
3.7 Burn-in. In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022,
with the following exceptions: DC: 48 hours at +125°C at 1.4 times the derated
+125°C dc voltage rating. The current to each capacitor shall be limited to 1 ampere maximum by a series resistor. AC: not
applicable.
3.8 Seal.
Method 112 of MIL-STD-202,
test condition C, procedure IIIa, followed by test condition A or D. Leakage rate sensitivity

3.9 Barometric pressure (reduced). In accordance with

3.14 Moisture resistance. In accordance with
method 106 of MIL-STD-202.

3.15 Terminal strength. In accordance with
method 211 of MIL-STD-202,
conditions A and C.
Condition A: Applied force 5 pounds.

3.16 Resistance to soldering heat.
Method 210 of MIL-STD-202,
condition B (+260C ±5C for 10 seconds ±1 seconds).

3.18 Life (at +100C). In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022,
accelerated conditions with 140 percent of rated dc voltage applied.
3.19 Marking. In accordance with
MIL-PRF-39022,
except the capacitor shall be marked with the PIN as specified herein (see
1.2),
the manufacturer’s symbol or Commercial and Government Entity (CAGE) code, and date lot codes. Minimum marking as shown in
the following example will be permitted. Full marking shall be included on the package.

3.20 Manufacturer eligibility. To be eligible for listing as an approved source of supply, a manufacturer shall be listed on the
MIL-
PRF-39022 Qualified Products Database
for at least one part, or perform the group A and group B inspections specified herein on a
sample of parts agreed upon by the manufacturer and DSCC-VA.
3.21 Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials. Recycled, recovered, or environmentally preferable materials
should be used to the maximum extent possible provided that the material meets or exceeds the operational and maintenance
requirements, and promotes economically advantageous life cycle costs.
3.22 Certificate of compliance. A certificate of compliance shall be required from manufacturers requesting to be an approved
source of supply.
3.23 Workmanship. The capacitor shall be uniform in quality and free from any defects that will affect life, serviceability, or
appearance.
