BRR Dust Cap Product Changes – Consolidated Version
Summary of Changes (Detailed information below):
1) Plastic components made from PSU rather than POM (announced in Product
Update #122 on May 15, 2013)

NEW
in this announcement- Material of gasket made from FKM (Viton®) rather than
MVQ (Silicone) – (see information in Item #1 Material Changes section below)
3) NEW Thread locker recommendations (announced in Product update #122A on
October 28, 2013)
4) New part numbers (announced in Product update #122A although additional
information has been added in Item #3 below)
5) New colors available (announced in Product update #122A)
1 & 2) Material Changes:
To improve the quality on the BRR dust cap products, LEMO has changed the dust cap
materials from POM (Polyoxymethylene) to PSU (Polysulfone) for the plastic
components, and MVQ (Silicone) to FKM (Viton®) for the gasket material. These
material changes improve the adhesion of the gasket and seals the connector properly
during unmating cycles. All series of the BRR dust cap products including: 0S, 1S, 2S,
3S, and 3K are implemented with this material change.

3) Thread locker Recommendations
With this PSU material change it is critical that the correct thread locker and thread
sealants are used as listed below:
A) Thread lockers such as Loctite
®
242 (or equivalent) are not compatible with the PSU
cap material
B) The following removable thread lockers or thread sealants are recommended for use on
the receptacle threads:
Removable Thread lockers
ND Industries Vibra-Tite® VC6 (LEMO USA part# VTVC-6 CLEAR)
ThreeBond 1401
PTFE based Thread sealants (reduced break-away torque)
Permatex® Thread Sealant with PTFE (80633)
LOCTITE® w/PTFE™
