PRODUCT INFORMATION
IDC-TECHNOLOGY
IDC is the abbreviation for Insulation Displacement Connection
(otherwise known as cut and clamp technology). Innovative,
more efficient, even more cost-saving as well as having the high-
est possible degree of contact reliability – the new generation
IDC2 is the most modern product that Weidmüller presently has
on offer in the field of connection technology. This tried and test-
ed connection technology from the fields of telecommunication
and electronics is now turning up trumps in industrial applications
in terminal block technology.
IDC connection technology requires very little effort to install, and
it guarantees a reliable contact.
No stripping of insulation, no screws, no special tools.
All standardised PVC cables with wire cross-sections between
0.21 and 1.5 mm
2
(0.5 and 2.5 mm
2
) can be connected.
Call us if you need to use special cables or visit our website:
www.idc2.de.
We keep an up-to-date list of cables, and it is constantly being
updated. If you have a cable that is not suitable for this method
of connection, then our hybrid terminals could well be the
answer. These terminals are available with IDC connections on
the one side and on the other side they are fitted with either
screw or spring connections.
REVOLUTIONARY TERMINAL TECHNOLOGY
AND VISUAL FUNCTIONAL CHECK
Your advantages with IDC2
• Visible, reliable contact
• Highest degree of contact safety
• Enormous savings in time and costs
• Easy to use
IDC2 technology doesn’t just put you at the leading edge of
quality, innovation and time saving, but also when it comes to
contact visibility. The position of the sliding yellow contacts tells
you at a glance if the wire is reliably connected.
• Compact design
• Wide range of terminals available
External tensioning
In keeping with the proven Weidmüller principle, the
externally tensioned IDC contact is also used here.
That means:
safe separation of mechanical and
electrical functions.
This principle offers you the
highest possible degree of safety and flexibility for the
wire cross-sections to be connected.
• Cross-connection options to
Weidmüller’s Z-Range
• Diverse range of accessories

ENORMOUS TIME SAVINGS
Faster connection ... more reliable contact
Potential timesavings of up to 76 % in comparison to traditional
terminal blocks when you use IDC2 technology to conect con-
ductors.
And that without the need for additional tools!
HIGHEST POSSIBLE DEGREE OF CONTACT SAFETY
The wire is cut to the required length and
inserted directly into the terminal point, …
...the screwdriver is then inserted and
placed against the front of the slider.
The slider is pressed using the screwdriver
the slider just locks into position.
Remove the screwdriver – the wire is
secured. No stripping of insulation or
crimping of ferrules, no special tools are
necessary.
A LOOK INSIDE...

advantage of our technology
compared with other technologies.

Photo 2 – conductor at the connecting stage: insulation is cut
through, the first contact is made with the busbar.

MIX IT ON THE RAIL
With IDC2 and Z-Range, you are using two top systems.
IDC2 and Z-Range components can easily be connected using
standard Z-Range cross-connections. Distribute the voltage via
large cross-sections using Z-Range terminals (for example, sup-
ply terminal ZEI 16). Distribute via smaller cross-sections.
Approvals
Of course, the products have the required approvals or they have
been applied for.
WEIDMÜLLER IS SETTING STANDARDS
Weidmüller IDC2 terminals fulfill the requirements of the
IEC 60947-7-1 and -2 standards (terminal block standards) and EN 60352-4 (insulation displacement standard)
