Flexible Framer, Programmable For T1/E1,
N x 64 Kbps Applications
Conexant’s RS8953B is a power-reduced, feature-enhanced
HDSL/SDSL framer which builds upon the strengths of its
predecessor, the Bt8953A. Conexant’s ZipWire
TM
transceiver
and framer devices (RS8973 and RS8953B) provide the building
blocks for the implementation of a single pair, 2-pair, or 3-pair
HDSL transport system for T1/E1 markets. In addition, it can be
used for multi-rate SDSL solutions (symmetrical transmission
over a single copper pair) capable of supporting multiple
transmission rates. The RS8953SPB is the single channel/pair
variant of RS8953B.
The RS8953B is fully programmable and adheres to all relevant
Bellcore, ANSI and ETSI standards. The device implements the
synchronization finite state machine and timing synchronization
mechanism, and provides mapping and routing functionality
between PCM bus and HDSL channels.

In addition to supporting standard T1/E1 extender equipment, the
RS8953B/SPB is used for point-to-multipoint and/or N x 64 Kbps
unframed application.In this configuration, up to three remote
terminals, each at a different distance from the central office, can
be connected to a central unit. The unframed N x 64 Kbps mode
is well suited for the support of traditional V.35 or Frame Relay
data network connectivity. The RS9853B supports multi-rate

symmetrical transmission from 80 Kbps (1 x 64 Kbps + 16 Kbps) to 2320
Kbps (36 x 64 Kbps + 16 Kbps) over any combination of single/double/triple
channels. The software driver for RS8953B/SPB has been significantly
enhanced. It provides an extensive suite of layer2 functionalities with the
ETSI-compliant EOC engine, as well as some key link management
related functions.
