A3163
Hall Effect Switch for 2-Wire Applications
Not for New Design
These parts are in production but have been determined to be
NOT FOR NEW DESIGN. This classification indicates that sale of
this device is currently restricted to existing customer applications.
The device should not be purchased for new design applications
because obsolescence in the near future is probable. Samples are no
longer available.
Date of status change: April 2003
Recommended Substitutions:
For existing customer transition, and for new customers or new appli-
cations, refer to the
A1143.
NOTE: For detailed information on purchasing options, contact your
local Allegro field applications engineer or sales representative.

HALL-EFFECT SWITCH
FOR 2-WIRE APPLICATIONS
This Hall-effect switch is a monolithic integrated circuit designed to
operate continuously over extended temperatures to +85°C. The unipo-
lar switching characteristic makes this device ideal for use with a simple
bar or rod magnet. The A3163ELT and A3163EUA are identical except
for package.
Each device includes a voltage regulator for operation with supply
voltages of 3.5 to 24 volts, reverse-battery protection, quadratic Hall-
voltage generator for low offset, temperature compensation circuitry,
small-signal amplifier, Schmitt trigger, and a constant-current open-
collector output, wired internally for true 2-wire operation. Noise
radiation is limited by control of the output-current slew rate.
Two package styles provide a magnetically optimized package for
most applications. Suffix ‘LT’ is a miniature SOT89/TO-243AA transis-
tor package for surface-mount applications; suffix ‘UA’ is a three-lead
ultra-mini SIP for through-hole mounting; it is also available with lead
forming for surface-mount applications (suffix 'UA-TL').
