RN41/RN42 v6.30 RELEASE NOTES
Firmware 6.30 is an update to the RN41-I/RM RN42-I/RM Bluetooth modules
(SPP/HID). It fixes reported issues with the previous 6.15 firmware and adds some
new features such as DFU and pairing list commands.
FIXED ISSUES
•
Command “C,<adr>” re-connects to the specified Bluetooth address in
PDL
•
Device will not start attempts to automatically reconnect after user
initiated disconnect
•
Issue with the selection of authentication mode is resolved
•
Issue with module to module connection with SSP authentication mode
resolved
•
Issue with factory reset using GPIO4 in HID mode resolved
•
Issue with reboot command in remote login mode resolved
NEW FEATURES
•
Support for Device Firmware Update (DFU) using the Microchip DFU
Utility
•
Command “%” to put the module into DFU mode
•
Enter DFU mode during boot time by asserting GPIO3 high
•
Authentication support added to HID mode
•
Command “Y” to list the trusted/paired device list (PDL)
•
Command “N,<adr>” to remove device from the trusted/paired device
list
•
Command “SI,<hex>,<hex>” to set inquiry scan window and inquiry scan
interval
•
Command “SJ,<hex>,<hex>” to set page scan window and page scan
interval
•
Command “SS,<text>” to set the service name
•
Command “SO,<prefix>,<postfix>” supports postfix character delimiters
DEVICE FIRMWARE UPDATE (DFU) FEATURE
Microchip DFU Utility can be used to perform DFU update over UART on RN42
Bluetooth module starting with firmware version v6.30 onwards. DFU image
files (.dfu) for new release of the firmware will be provided to update the
firmware. Microchip DFU Utility can be downloaded at:

NEW DESIGN INFORMATION
Version 6.30 is recommended for new designs. For existing designs using 6.15
or earlier that will be transitioning to 6.30, interoperability testing is strongly
advised prior to replacing 6.15 part with 6.30.

should reference the following QDIDs:
