Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. MT5656ZDX User Guide
Chapter 1 – Product Overview
Overview
Multi-Tech MT5656ZDX and MT5656ZDX-V modems are compatible with the ITU-TV.92 protocol that provide
quick connections, downstream transmissions at speeds up to 56K bps, and upstream transmissions at speeds up
to 48K bps when connected to V.92-compatible Internet Service Providers. The V.92 protocol is able to send
downstream from the Internet to your computer at these speeds because data on the telephone network
typically is converted from digital to analog only once before it reaches your modem. Upstream transmissions and
transmissions between client modems are limited to 33.6K bps, as are upstream transmissions that are converted
more than once on the telephone lines.
Modem features include Plug and Play operation. In standard mode, the modem can store up to four command
lines or telephone numbers of up to 40 characters each in nonvolatile memory. Other modem capabilities include
modem-on-hold, AT&T calling card tone detection, pulse and tone dialing, adaptive answer, V.42bis and V.44 data
compression, and self-resetting lightning protection.
Please note that some V.92 features are turned off in the factory default configuration, and may need to be
turned on, depending on your needs.
