EMI FILTERS WITH ENHANCED
ESD PROTECTION
Lower total line capacitance low pass filters for standard parallel interfaces permit
excellent EMI suppression at lower operating voltages
• Low line capacitance, supporting low
voltage and drive level interfaces
• Attenuation from 700 MHz to 6 GHz
enveloping all active handset
frequencies
Because the CM1693 is an inductor-
based, low-pass filter, rise and fall times
are significantly faster than traditional
RC-based filters. This has proven to be
an important consideration for digital
The CM1693 represents the first in a family
of general and special purpose low-pass
filter products featuring
Praetorian III
signal integrity. Additionally, because the
CM1693 is an inductor-based solution, the
attenuation mask has very little sensitivity
to DC bias.
By meeting or surpassing the system
attenuation requirements of current and
antcipated future CMDA and E-GSM
protocols, and supporting the faster clock
speed and higher frequency cutoff needs
of high resolution cameras, high-density
removable storage, and high resolution
displays, the CM1693 is primed to become
the EMI filter of choice for handset
The CM1693 is the first product on the
market to use a coupled or (stacked)
inductor to create low-pass filters. The
CM1693 attenuates signals starting in the
700 MHz band, an important consideration
for designers of CDMA, E-GSM, and
eventually LTE. The CM1693 also provides
the following key performance features:
• Frequency rolloff starting at 300 MHz,
supporting clocks up to 96 MHz
• Rise/fall times as fast as 4 nSec
• Integrated +/- 18kV contact ESD
protection
The CM1693 is designed to meet the needs
of today’s data-rich multimedia ecosystem
for wireless handsets.

• Sharp rise times through the filter
• Broadband attenuation in the carrier
bands (from about 700 MHz up to
6 GHz)
• Lowest total line capacitance
• Less susceptibility to mask-shifting DC
bias
• Integrated, silicon-based ESD
protection, which does not degrade
over time
• Deep levels of attenuation and high
signal-to-nose ratios
PERFORMANCE WITHOUT
COMPROMISE
The CM1693 family’s advanced C-L-L-C
architecture (12pF-26nH-10F per channel)
provides 4, 6, and 8 channel configurations
to enable maximum layout and placement
flexibility (see Table 1). The CM1693
achieves fast rise times, deep attenuation
in the wireless handset frequencies and
provides robust ESD protection.

are demonstrated (>300MHz at -6dB),
with a steep rolloff slope (-18dB/octave)
and deep broadband attenuation (below
-40dB at 900 MHz). This results in excellent
signal integrity in the time domain and
helps preserve sharp rise with minimal
propagation delay through the filter. These
performance characteristics help make the
CM1693 the best option over competing
solutions such as discrete, ceramic L-C
filters. Because the CM1693 is a silicon-
based solution, there is very little filter
performance variation from channel-to-
channel. In addition to high-performance
filtering, each channel provides robust ESD
protection up to ±18kV contact discharge
per IEC61000-4-2 Level 2 specification.
